Mariánské Lázně - Mariánské Lázně will repair the current town hall building. Today, after years of discussions, the representatives prioritized the reconstruction of the historical building over the construction of a new administrative center. During the reconstruction, the office departments will be relocated to several addresses in the city. Most officials and city leadership will continue to be located on Ruská Street, in the regional building Terezián.
"The building after reconstruction will accommodate all departments back as it has been so far. Additionally, a small canteen will be created. According to the feasibility study, parking at the town hall should also be resolved," argued Deputy Mayor Luděk Nosek (STAN). Near the town hall, a two-story parking area with 60 spaces is planned, so up to 85 cars could potentially park at the town hall. The development of the area should also be supported by the investment plan of the company Cimex, with which the city wants to collaborate in the future.
The decision of the representatives was also influenced by the recent collapse of part of the neglected Kavkaz hotel in the historic center of the city. "It is the city's duty to care for historical buildings, of which the town hall undoubtedly belongs," added the deputy mayor. The author of the feasibility study also pointed out at the council meeting that leaving the town hall could contribute to the depopulation of the historic city center.
The reconstruction of the town hall will likely take several years, and costs are expected to exceed 200 million crowns. The city plans to finance the construction through a loan. During the construction, the office departments will be relocated; besides Terezián, this will include, for example, the elementary school in Úšovice or the former Bytov building on Chebská Street. The main issue with the historical town hall is primarily the attack of dry rot, and due to the poor condition of the load-bearing structures, some departments had to be vacated as of now. A significant part of the building is provisionally secured.
The plan to leave the old, poorly maintained town hall and build a new administrative center first appeared in Mariánské Lázně in 2002. Between 2012 and 2014, the establishment was nearly approved, but in the end, the plan was not completed. The main problem was the necessity to find a new use for the historical town hall building, which would also require its reconstruction. No one responded to the plan for the sale of the building, which the city announced in the spring of last year.
