Brno – The Brno district of Žabovřesky is completing the reconstruction of the interior of the cultural house Rubín at Makovského Square. The square itself will also undergo renovations. This was announced today in a press release by the deputy mayor of the district, Filip Leder (KDU-ČSL).
The cultural house has a new electrical installation, sewage systems and social facilities. "We raised the interior space of the main hall by one level, and instead of non-functional projection and technical rooms on its second floor, there is an open gallery for the audience. The ceremonial hall has also undergone a sensitive reconstruction," said Leder.
Rubín still houses some period artifacts that recall the building's nearly half-century history. "Visitors will still be able to enjoy the large-format ceramic sculpture by J. Netík from 1980, notice the original wooden and gilded city of Brno emblem at the festive entrance up the stairs to the ceremonial hall, or view the wall with signatures of the performers who played at Rubín," the deputy mayor stated.
The six-month reconstruction cost approximately 17 million crowns, with 12 million contributed by Brno. If government measures allow, commented tours of the "new" Rubín are planned for late May and early June.
Makovského Square itself will also undergo renovations totaling 1.6 million crowns. According to the deputy mayor, it is to be transformed into a cultivated relaxation area that will offer an increased number of seating for audiences in the event of cultural events. Plans include, among other things, 210 m² of new flower beds and the renewal of lawns. "We will also install new relaxation furniture in the square, placing it in the shade of the tree crowns, instead of the existing placement on the arid pavement of the square," said Leder.
In the green strip between the square and the roadway, ten screened benches with higher backs will be added, creating a boundary for the relaxation area of the square. Three newly built seating platforms will also offer a resting option – areas encircling the trunks of trees.
