Prague - The Office for the Representation of the State in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM) is selling the Kunratice Castle complex at auction. The starting price for the baroque building from the 17th century with a park of over one hectare is 106,260,000 crowns. ČTK was informed about this today by ÚZSVM spokeswoman Michaela Tesařová. None of the other state institutions showed interest in the castle.

The electronic auction will begin on January 18 at 10:00 AM. It will last for 24 hours. Interested parties must pay a deposit of ten million crowns by January 17.

The three-winged baroque castle was built by František Václav Čabelický ze Soutic in 1688 on the site of a medieval fortress, which in the past belonged to King Václav IV. A vast castle park of over 1.4 hectares with a pheasantry, created in the 18th century, adjoins the southern side. Later, the castle was reconstructed in the classical style and supplemented with a clock tower on the northern facade. High-quality stucco and painting decorations have been preserved in the interior.

After 1945, the castle was confiscated and from 1957 it housed the entomology department of the National Museum. Since 2014, the building has been unused. "ÚZSVM took over the complex in September 2021 from the National Museum in very poor technical condition. In accordance with the law, ÚZSVM first offered the property to other state institutions, but none of them showed interest. Therefore, ÚZSVM will seek a new owner through a transparent selection process with an electronic auction," the spokeswoman stated.
