This year's prestigious Lubetkin Prize was awarded to the National Stadium in Beijing designed by the Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron in collaboration with the China Architectural Design and Research Group, Arup Sport and Ove Arup and Partners Hong Kong, and the artist Ai Wei Wei.

The Lubetkin Prize is awarded by the British RIBA to one of its members for the best non-European building. This year's jury selected the laureate from six finalists - besides the National Stadium, there was Beijing's Terminal 3 from Foster and Partners, the National Aquatics Center from PTW Architects also built for the Beijing Olympics, Munich's Museum Brandhorst from sauerbruch hutton, Sean O’Casey Community Centre in Dublin from O’Donnell and Tuomey, and the British Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka from Richard Murphy Architects.
The finalists are drawn from the laureates of the RIBA International Awards, which recognize the best buildings realized by RIBA members outside the United Kingdom, and the announcement of these awards precedes the granting of the Lubetkin Prize. This year, the authors of fifteen buildings received this award (see here).
