Liberec Region has announced the competition for Building of the Year in the region for the third time

Liberec - The Liberec Region has announced the construction of the year competition in the region for the third time. Applications for the competition will be accepted until the end of June. This year’s edition differs from previous ones in its concept. The organizers decided to categorize the buildings according to functionality, technical and structural execution into three separate categories. This was said today by the regional councilor for economic and regional development, Vít Příkaský.
    The jury will separately evaluate residential and civic construction, purpose-built and industrial buildings, including refurbishments. “Engineering, transport, or water management constructions will also have a separate category,” said Příkaský. The aim of the competition is not only to compare the work of construction companies and designers in the region but also to present it to investors. A condition of the competition is that the construction must be carried out on the territory of the region.
    The first edition, which took place two years ago, evaluated buildings from a five-year period. The winner at that time was the refurbishment of the canteen of the Technical University in Liberec, and the pedestrian bridge Rádlo was awarded for its original design. Last year, buildings completed from January 1, 2004, to June 30 of last year could participate. This year, the competition is open to projects completed in 2005 and 2006, certified by March 31 of this year.
    Last year, the jury evaluated 12 constructions. The winner was the refurbishment of the former Vista factory building in the center of Semily for the needs of the local municipal office. The refurbishment, designed by Liberec architect Filip Horatschke, was successful in the national competition Construction of the Year 2006. Similarly, the reconstruction and extension of the Municipal Stadium in Liberec also succeeded, receiving an extraordinary award from the governor.
