Liberec - Liberec is looking for an investor for the area along the riverbed of the Lužická Nisa in the so-called lower center. In a location that is currently one of the most neglected in the central part of the city, buildings with shops, offices, and apartments are expected to rise. The city hall has already offered for sale the land of the former marketplace behind the ČSOB building. This is reported by today’s Liberec supplement of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). The deadline for applications is April 15.
Investors must meet regulatory conditions, for example, there should predominantly be apartments and offices in the buildings. “The buildings should be more suitable for urban living,” said Ladislav Fuchs, head of the department of development projects, to the newspaper. Liberec has offered plots bounded by the streets Hrazená, U Besedy, and Lužická Nisa. This includes one house designated for demolition. According to regulatory conditions, three buildings up to five stories high are to be constructed there.
The area around the Nisa is one of the most neglected parts of the city center, but in recent years it has begun to attract investors. One of them, for example, revived factory buildings on the left bank of the Nisa and transformed them into a restaurant and marketplace. The bridge leading to them across the river is one of 12 candidates for the title of Building of the Year in the Liberec Region.
The city hall owns a large portion of the land in this area, once nicknamed the Venice of Liberec, but so far it is blocking the redevelopment of the area. The city once commissioned studies on how the area along the Nisa could look, but everything has remained just on paper. Several studies of the future shape were also done by students of Liberec architecture. Adam Gebrian even won an award for the best urban planning work among Czech and Slovak students with his proposal.
