Letovice (Blanensko) - Letovice in the Blanensko region will begin the long-planned repair of the central Masaryk Square no earlier than next year. It will cost approximately 40 million crowns. Currently, the local council does not have the funds for it. This year, the city wants to negotiate the construction of a parking lot for 70 cars, which is closely related to the project, said Letovice mayor Vladimír Stejskal (ODS) to ČTK today.

So far, only the riverbank of the Svitava River has been modified in Masaryk Square. The company Povodí Moravy had its bed dredged of silt last year and reinforced the riverbank embankments. Additionally, in one location, the bank has been modified to serve as a seating area for people.
The modification of the square itself will be more demanding. The most complicated part will be the adjustment of the busy intersection adjacent to the train station. Although it will remain preserved, it should be made clearer.
A new parking lot for 70 cars will be created near the fire station close to the square. This will allow for the removal of approximately 20 parking spaces in the direct center, which will be replaced by greenery and a fountain. The council hopes to secure a private investor to build the parking lot.
"We need to obtain subsidies for the square reconstruction project. We cannot afford it from our own resources," Stejskal added.
