Ostrava - The footbridge above the Ostrava football stadium Bazaly has been reconstructed for more than 37 million crowns. It is finished with a frame that allows for panoramic photos with the city in the background. Work is also being done on the modifications of the area around the footbridge, Mayor Jan Dohnal (Together) said today to ČTK.

The footbridge leads from Nejedlého Street across Českobratrská Street by the Bazaly stadium in Slezská Ostrava. It was completed in 1986 and opened to the public in November of that year. "It is important to realize that the footbridge was from 1986 and since then it has not been touched at all. Everyone who lives in Ostrava knows that even before it was a relatively frequently visited place for photography and beautiful views of the city. The backdrop of the stadium at Bazaly was also there. So when it was decided to repair the stadium complex, where we now have the youth training center and the players of Baník, it was also decided to repair the footbridge," Dohnal stated. According to him, the footbridge was already in an unsatisfactory technical condition.

The builders began work on the repairs last fall. Due to water leaking into the bridge structure, it was significantly damaged. It was also necessary to repair the access stairs and ramp. The surfaces, insulation, and railings are new. In addition to the viewpoint window, there are also benches and planters for greenery on the footbridge. Currently, the footbridge is already passable. Due to the safe placement of the viewpoint window, it has been shortened by 70 centimeters after reconstruction. "I believe that Ostrava has gained a new landmark that complements what we want to have here," Dohnal stated.

The reconstruction of the footbridge was financed by the city, and during its modernization, the builders used corten, a weathering steel. The modernization of the adjacent area, including public transport stops designed like football benches, is the responsibility of the city district of Slezská Ostrava. According to the mayor, the complete modifications of the location should be finished by the middle of next year.
