Kutná Hora - Kutná Hora wants to convert the former school on Na Náměti street into a municipal library. The city council approved the announcement of a tender for a construction company, which will take the form of an electronic auction, said Mayor Josef Viktora (ANO) to ČTK.
Including the parking lot, the construction will require nearly 150 million crowns, most of which will be covered by an already approved grant. The opening is planned for next year. Kutná Hora needs a new library. The current spaces at Rejskovo Square are insufficient; lectures or computer classes could also be held on Na Náměti street.
In the past, the city faced the risk of not being eligible for the grant for the school's reconstruction. According to the original conditions, it was enough that the building was located in a conservation area listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, the rules changed, and it was established that the monument must be a specific building that will be renovated. This obstacle has now been removed. The Ministry of Culture has granted the city's request for the former school to be designated as a cultural monument.
