The long-awaited church in Sazovice has been approved. The intention to build a church here has existed since 1935, but it is only in the last five years that this idea has come to fruition. The church will be dedicated to the Czech saint, Saint Wenceslas. Furthermore, this building has several connections to this saint, including a formal reference to Romanesque structures from the time of the prince's life. The shape of the circle is also close to contemporary liturgy. It understands the assembly of believers around the altar as a reminder of the Last Supper of Jesus with the apostles, which will be an experience possible inside.
The church stands in the center of the village in a natural bay of buildings at the crossroads. This space was sufficiently large for the placement of this civic building, and it can be said that the construction has anchored the surrounding public space in time. According to the author, the church is poetically minimalist. Not only the exterior appearance but also the interior is simple, focused, meditative, and clean, to bring visitors a sense of tranquility and peace. In the church, free from visual smog, visitors should perceive calmness and be aware of their inner selves. The light that illuminates the spaces through side notches in the walls contributes to the serenity and intimacy of the space, while the position of these notches prevents distractions from the surrounding views. As can be seen in the photograph from a winter evening, the church looks like it is made of wax.
The Church of Saint Wenceslas was designed by architect Marek Štěpán, who has the greatest reputation for sacred buildings in our country. He assisted the association for the construction of the Church of Saint Wenceslas in Sazovice from site selection, through architecture, to the theological-artistic concept of the building. Vladimir Kokolia was invited for artistic curation and later for its realization. Currently, work is underway on the bronze drawings. The consecration and commissioning of the church is expected to take place this year.
