Lysice

Lysice - The chapel of the Renaissance castle in Lysice in Blanensko recently acquired new painted stained glass windows depicting three saints. The original ones had paintings from the 19th century that were in such poor condition that they could not be restored.

"Therefore, we had exact copies of the windows made. The paintings are very successful. They demonstrate the skill of Czech restorers," said the castle curator Martina Medková-Rudolfová to ČTK today.
In the past, artists used egg white as a binder in the paint for stained glass windows. However, over time, the colors deteriorate. The egg white causes the paintings to crack due to sunlight exposure. They can be preserved, but not completely restored.
The original windows, 70 centimeters high and 20 centimeters wide, have ended up in the depot of the Lysice castle. "We will probably display them when we organize an exhibition on the work of restorers," added the curator.
The castle in Lysice was built in the 16th century on the site of a medieval water fortress. The building belonged to many noble families. The owner of the castle was the noble family Dubský from Třebomyslice, which resided there until 1945. Approximately 40,000 tourists visit it annually. Interest in it is increasing.
