Jičín - The city of Jičín should have an area study for the barracks location completed by the summer, where a new residential neighborhood is planned to be developed in the future. The study will be carried out by the Prague architectural office Cuboid Architekti, which won last year's architectural competition for the design of the new development of the eight-hectare area. The city council has already approved a contract with the architects. This was reported by the city hall spokesperson Magdaléna Doležalová today.
The city's contract with the architects also includes further cooperation between the two entities. The city will pay 399,000 crowns excluding VAT for the study and subsequent cooperation. This total price will be reduced by the amount awarded to the winner of the urban planning-architectural competition, which is 100,000 CZK.
The competition proposal by Cuboid Architekti mainly considers family houses at the site of the barracks and, to a lesser extent, apartment buildings. In the center of the area, the architects proposed a kindergarten building. The jury praised the proposal for its simplicity and the fact that it does not create an alien urban structure in the area.
Jičín has already demolished most of the barracks buildings. Only two outer barracks buildings remain towards the center, and the city is seeking their use. A local doctor has expressed interest in one building, which he would like to convert into a medical office, pharmacy, and housing. The city hall intends to build infrastructure on the barracks site and then offer the land to investors. The city hall estimates this could happen as early as 2016.
Originally, the barracks area was to be redeveloped exclusively by private investors. However, neither of the two attempts to hand over the barracks to private individuals materialized, and the city eventually decided in 2011 to continue with the revitalization on its own.
