Žatec – One of the smallest cultural monuments in the Czech Republic, a former newsstand in Žatec in the Louny region built at the beginning of the last century, has been purchased by the owner of the Žatec synagogue, Daniel Černý. The investor plans to renovate the house and open it with a mini-concert.
"I have been the owner of one of the smallest cultural monuments, the newsstand built at the beginning of the 20th century, for 14 days. I took a little break from the renovations of the synagogue, which is the second largest synagogue and cultural monument, to focus on this small building. It had an owner who didn’t have the time, resources, or energy, so we agreed that he would sell it to me,” said Černý.
Once a sales booth, it is in a state of disrepair. According to Černý, the repair will take more than half a year and cost about 500,000 crowns. He is trying to gather more information about the monument, for example in the museum. He is also looking for someone who sold at the kiosk during the war. "It would be very nice to obtain human stories related to it,” Černý added.
Once the reconstruction is finished, the owner intends to organize a small concert in the house located near the city center. According to him, it would involve one musician who would play for passersby at the window and also stream for people watching on screens.
