Hradec Králové - Builders have recently started an extensive reconstruction of Šimkovy Sady in the center of Hradec Králové. The project, valued at 60 million crowns, is expected to be completed by the end of August next year. About 60 percent of the costs will be covered by a grant from the European Union. ČTK was informed today by the spokesperson of the city hall, Magdaléna Vlčková.
The reconstruction of the park follows its original concept by architect Josef Gočár. The project includes, for example, dredging the pond in the middle of the gardens so that skaters can use it in winter. Builders from the companies Pontevia and Silnice Čáslav will also repair the pathways, the gardens will receive new benches and lighting, and the greenery will be refreshed. The rotunda, which houses the scouts, will also be renovated. It will newly include refreshments and public restrooms.
For safety reasons, it will not be possible to hold any events in the gardens during the repairs. Only the meadow behind the kindergarten will remain accessible to the public. The skatepark on the edge of the gardens will also remain in operation.
The repair of the gardens is one of the largest current investments of the city. The second is the renovation of October 28 Square for more than 90 million crowns.
