Hradec Králové - The city of Hradec Králové has completed a study on the possible design of a new football stadium in Malšovice. It plans for a capacity of 10,000 spectators and the preservation of lighting fixtures in the shape of four lollipops from the current stadium, which will otherwise be demolished. The study was presented today by its creator, architect Tomáš Vymetálek, to the council members. The stadium will accommodate FC Hradec Králové, which is currently fighting for survival in the first league. What the actual design of the stadium will be is still unclear. "With this study, we wanted to demonstrate how large the stadium could be, and that the lollipops could be preserved. It is a suggested path. Nothing is finalized, nothing is competed for," said Mayor Zdeněk Fink (Hradec Democratic Club). The study, which cost the city nearly half a million crowns, was unanimously acknowledged by the council members today. The city originally planned to build the stadium as a joint project with ECE, which wanted to build a shopping center next to the stadium. However, ECE withdrew from the multibillion project after five years of preparation in December 2013. Attempts to take over the project by other companies were also unsuccessful. For the city to fully take control of the stadium construction, it must first terminate the contracts with ECE. The original intention to terminate the contracts in February was not fulfilled due to prolonged negotiations. According to Fink, the contracts could be terminated in March. According to Vymetálek's study, if the lollipop lighting fixtures are preserved, they will need to be repaired and moved closer to the playing field. The stadium should also have its own parking lot with about 440 spaces. Unlike the project with ECE, there will be no need to build a new exit from the Gočár's circuit or interfere with the surrounding roads. Throughout the reconstruction of the stadium, league matches should continue to be played there. An outdoor amphitheater for 3,000 people could also be built near the stadium, and the area could be connected by a footbridge over the Orlice River to the neighboring sports complex Slavia. The construction costs could be around 350 million crowns, and the construction could take about two and a half years. Based on the permits issued for the project with ECE, only the demolition order for the current stadium could likely be used according to the study. The main burden of financing the stadium will fall on the city. Originally, the city was supposed to primarily fund the stadium from the sale of land for the shopping center to ECE for 259 million crowns. ECE also committed to providing the football club with 176 million crowns over ten years and to paying about 115 million for infrastructure, transport connections, and the demolition of the old stadium.
