Hradec Králové - The town hall in Hradec Králové will pay ten million crowns for the repair of the old fountain in Ulrich Square in the city center. The reason for the repair, which will be completed this year, is the poor technical condition of the fountain and significant water leakage from the basin. This was stated today by the deputy mayor of Hradec Králové, Josef Malíř.

The shape of the fountain will be preserved during the reconstruction. The concrete basin will be replaced with a stainless steel basin, and the jets will be below the water surface. Modern technology will take care of the water effects underground. The town hall has already selected a contractor for the repair.
The city councillors believe that the repaired fountain will not provoke mixed reactions like the giant stainless steel fountain installed years ago at the nearby Masaryk Square. People have nicknamed this fountain "the giant ashtray," "a fish tub," or "a laundry pot" due to its shape.
In the city center, the town hall is also preparing a complete reconstruction of the Small Square, which will cost more than 30 million crowns. However, construction is currently delayed by appeals from two civic initiatives against the building permit. According to the approved budget, the city has prepared over 600 million crowns for investments this year.
