Hanuš Zápal

On the occasion of the ongoing exhibition about architect Hanuš Zápal, a publication by Petr Domanický about the life and primarily the works of this significant architect has been released, who made a notable mark on the appearance of Plzeň and a number of surrounding municipalities.

The book provides the first comprehensive view of the work of Hanuš Zápal, the most significant architect of Plzeň in the 20th century. Zápal devoted virtually his entire life to architectural creation and the preservation of monuments in the region, significantly influencing its appearance. Since 1910, when he became an employee of the city of Plzeň, he designed a whole series of important public buildings in Plzeň, especially schools and social institutions, as well as buildings of a technical nature. At the same time, he privately engaged in designing family houses and preserving monuments. In the pre-war era, he also privately designed a number of other public buildings in West Bohemian towns.
