The Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic granted accreditation for a new study program in Landscape Architecture to the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FA ČVUT) in April 2015. Applications for study can be submitted until June 15, 2015.

The new 3-year bachelor's program will prepare students from October 2015 for the field of comprehensive care for the landscape, with an emphasis on the connection with architecture, urban planning, and fine arts. The Landscape Architecture program will be a two-level university study (bachelor's and master's), organized into a serial chain of two independent study programs. Accreditation for the master's program in Landscape Architecture is planned for 2018. A doctoral program is being prepared for the future.

Architecture and landscape architecture represent two fields that are coming closer together in the 21st century than ever before, and cooperation between them is a necessary prerequisite for successful projects. Today's world architecture schools commonly offer interdisciplinary education, parallel courses in architecture and landscape architecture, or integrated courses in environmental urbanism.

As part of the interdisciplinary study, some natural science subjects will be taught at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, and subjects from the fields of architecture, engineering, social sciences, and art will be taught at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU in Prague. “The composition of the study subjects will allow graduates of the new field of Landscape Architecture to navigate activities associated with a wide range of construction activities. The advantage is the emphasis on practical knowledge and technical equipment,” explains Ing. Vladimír Sitta, head of the Department of Landscape Architecture at FA ČVUT.

A landscape architect, a graduate of FA ČVUT in Prague, will be a broadly educated professional who can work as a landscape architect in freelance practice, in project teams, in public administration, or in managerial positions. With knowledge of architecture and urban planning, they will play an important role in planning processes in the field of environmental protection and creation.

Those interested in studying are invited to the Open Day, which will take place at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU, Thákurova 9, Prague 6 on Saturday, June 13, 2015. An electronic application can be submitted until June 15, 2015, and a written application until June 19, 2015. Entrance exams for the new study program will be held on June 29-30, 2015.
