Ostrov

Ostrov - In Ostrov, the replacement of windows and the repair of the city's Culture House facade have begun. The investment in the cultural monument, amounting to approximately 23.3 million crowns, is expected to be completed by the end of next year. The reconstruction will be carried out in a way that minimally disrupts the operation of the cultural house, said the Deputy Mayor of Ostrov, Marek Poledníček (Ostrováci.cz).

"Before the holidays, the first test window was installed, where the profile and division of the window were specified to resemble the originals as closely as possible. Everything was consulted with the designer and conservationists," Poledníček stated.

He noted that due to the number of windows, the work would be spread over several phases. Work will begin now, but construction will pause during the Ota Hofman Film Festival. According to Poledníček, preliminary tests for the facade repairs will also likely start this year, with work continuing into next year.

The Culture House in Ostrov, built between 1954 and 1955, is an example of traditionalism. It is a dominant feature of Peace Square, which was also created in this architectural style. The Culture House narrowly missed being classified as a significant monument of the Czech-German Ore Mountains, which were recently inscribed on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List.
