Domažlice - Domažlice aims to complete another phase of the extensive reconstruction of the historic building of the former city brewery within two years. Last year, the city repaired the first part - the brewery's brewhouse. They are now working on documentation and applying for a subsidy for repairs to the northern wing, which is set to house a library on two floors, as well as a restaurant, exhibition spaces, and the brewery itself, which the city intends to revive. According to preliminary estimates, these repairs would cost approximately 40 million crowns, with part of it being covered by subsidies, said Mayor Miroslav Mach to ČTK.

The city hall is preparing a subsidy application from the Czech-German cross-border grant program. This will primarily apply to the exhibition part of the brewery, which will feature exhibition spaces focusing on Czech-German cooperation. Of the total costs for the renovation of the wing, eligible costs for the subsidy are around 20 million crowns, and the city could receive up to 90%. The remaining funds will be sought by the city hall from other subsidy titles, although they also plan to cover part of it from their own resources.

The renovated wing is expected to include a restaurant, for which the city, according to Mach, would like to negotiate with a vocational school. Thus, Domažlice would gain a good operator, and the school would have a quality environment for student internships.

In addition to the Czech-German exhibition, the brewery is also expected to feature a brewery exhibition or an exhibition on the history of glassmaking in the Domažlice area. In the valley of the Bystřice River, there were once glassworks that were the largest customers of the city brewery, said the mayor. The additional two floors of the wing will be dedicated to the library and its educational function. Mach hopes that the renovated wing will open in the spring of 2018.

After that, there will still be around 25 million crowns needed to repair the front wing, which will house a concert hall in the attic and a large hall for 200 people. The restaurant will be able to use it for large weddings and other events, and conferences will also be held there, among other things. The wing could also house a pub, and possibly smaller shops, the mayor plans.

Last August, Domažlice opened the brewhouse, which was repaired for 26 million crowns. The five-story building features a gallery along the perimeter with glass floors. It includes all necessary technologies and infrastructure for further development of the building and also a new elevator.
