Prague - Today, a model of the Czech pavilion from the World Expo 2015 in Milan was added to the collections of the National Technical Museum (NTM) in Prague, and it will be on display in the exhibition of Architecture, Construction, and Design. The director general of NTM, Karel Ksandr, informed journalists about this today. The pavilion was created by architects Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof from Brno and won a bronze medal for architecture at the Expo. Its model, at a scale of one to fifty with dimensions of 1400 by 500 millimeters, was made from plastic, wood, and paper.

"It will join models of both realized and unrealized buildings from past world exhibitions. These include, for example, a functionalist gem, the model for the exhibition pavilion for the Paris exhibition in 1937, which attracted extraordinary attention at the time," stated Ksandr, adding that the collection of the exhibition of Architecture, Construction, and Design also includes designs of pavilions for world exhibitions by architects Josef Gočár, Bohuslav Fuchs, and Ladislav Machoně.

The Czech pavilion for Expo 2015 in Milan is an example of so-called modular architecture, in which buildings can be reconfigured, modified, or relocated and given new functions. The pavilion was assembled from recyclable modules, and visitors got acquainted with the Czech Republic, its regions, and Czech achievements in science and modern technologies. During the Expo, it received several partial awards from visitors and Italian media, for example, as the most relaxing pavilion, the pavilion most welcoming to children, and the pavilion with the most beautiful rooftop garden. The pavilion is currently disassembled near Vizovice, where it is planned to open on May 1, 2018.

"While Slovakia sold its pavilion for one euro and it was subsequently demolished, the Czech pavilion will be used in two floors in Vizovice for the administration of the company, and the exhibition for the public on the ground floor will be dedicated to participation in Expo 2015 in Milan. A terrace will also be accessible, from where there will be an opportunity to look out over the Wallachian countryside," said Stanislav Martinec, managing director of KOMA Modular, the company that manufactured the pavilion for the Expo.

The World Expo 2015 was visited by 21.5 million people, a third of whom were from abroad.
