Liberec - Half a year after its opening, the Regional Gallery of Liberec, rebuilt for 360 million from the municipal baths, is threatened with closure for up to two months, according to today's edition of the Liberec supplement to MF Dnes. Water is seeping into the walls of the renovated building in the city center. However, the artworks are reportedly not at risk.
Water is leaking into the English courtyards, which are basement light wells that illuminate and ventilate the spaces below ground level. "The problem with the English courtyard around the baths is indeed real, but the humidity is currently only in the basement areas where we have technical facilities. The information that new insulation is to be done is new to me. Personally, I think that even if such construction intervention were to occur, it could be addressed while in operation," said gallery director Jan Randáček from vacation to the newspaper.
The complaint is being addressed by the Liberec city hall, which is also investigating the cause of the groundwater seepage. "It is impossible to say when it will be resolved or how the defect will be eliminated,” said Deputy Mayor Jiří Šolc. According to the technicians dealing with the problem, the building awaits "the dismantling of concrete porches, excavation of the entire structure down to the foundations, and redoing the insulation, which is a construction operation lasting two months."
The contractor's approach, the company Chládek and Tintěra, to the complaint was described by Šolc as very accommodating and professional. The reconstruction of the municipal baths was one of the largest projects in Liberec co-financed by European funds. "The building as a whole works great and is highly valued by both the lay and professional public," added Šolc. It has been entered into the Building of the Year competition.
