Zlín, April 30 (ČTK) - The historic Malota Villa in Zlín, which has housed a children's home since 1951, has undergone renovation after many years. The building was designed in the 1920s by the famous architect of the city of Zlín Vladimír Karfík. The repairs will cost nearly 13 million crowns, with the funds provided by the Zlín Region. Helena Stráská, the director of the children's home, told ČTK today.
Two families with eight children who currently live in the home had to temporarily relocate. They found accommodation in the facilities of the House of Children and Youth in Zlín in Příluky. "The moving process was challenging. We were helped by firefighters, police officers, as well as relatives of the staff and friends of the home," Stráská told ČTK.
The extensive renovation is expected to last until mid-October. As part of the construction modifications, workers will replace the floor layers, renovate the sanitary facilities, kitchen, replace windows, electrical installations, and insulate the building. The outdoor areas will also be renovated, where a new sports field and shelter will be built. All modifications are being overseen by heritage conservationists. František Malota was one of the directors of Baťa's factories.
