The cycle tower for almost 10 million will not be built in Prague's Háje

Prague - The new leadership of Prague 11 has canceled the planned construction of a bicycle parking facility. The tower in Háje was estimated to cost the town hall approximately 9.5 million crowns. "There is no money for it in the budget and the construction is completely unnecessary," said the new mayor Jiří Štyler (Movement for Prague 11) in an interview with ČTK. The construction was approved by the former town hall leadership with Mayor Dalibor Mlejnský (South City - Our Home).
The tower, which would serve for bicycle storage, was to be located near the C metro station Háje. The decision to build it was made by former councilors shortly before the October elections. According to Mayor Štyler, however, no one considered whether there is demand for this automatic storage. "I searched in vain for those hundreds of desperate cyclists who have nowhere to put their bikes in Háje," Štyler said, adding that in Hradec Králové, where such a tower exists, it makes sense. "In South City, it does not. I haven't noticed that we have dozens of bikes tied up at the stations here. There are two in the rack at Háje," he added.
The new town hall leadership has therefore already agreed with the supplier Tosto that the contract will not proceed. According to the mayor, the tender can be canceled by law at the moment when, for example, it is not covered by the budget. "I explained to the representatives of the supplier that we do not have money for it, nor was it created because of demand from people. The company understands this and supposedly only wants to build it in places where it makes sense and there is interest," Štyler said.
In addition to the bicycle tower, the town hall has canceled the announced public tender for greenery care worth 200 million crowns. The reason was a number of complaints from applicants about discriminatory conditions of the tender. "It concerned, for example, excessive technical requirements or references," explained Štyler. Prague 11 will therefore announce a new tender, which it is currently having prepared.
