On Monday, May 21, 2018, at 7:00 PM, there will be a screening of the documentary film COPAN 60 Hours at 4AM Forum for Architecture and Media, Husova 18a in Brno. The film focuses on the iconic residential building Copan in the center of Brazil's São Paulo, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer. This building, resulting from a socially utopian project, accommodates over 5,000 residents from all social classes. They collectively share a structure where one can find apartments ranging from 20 square meters to apartments of 400 square meters. To achieve authenticity and capture the diversity of the place, the crew had to rent one of the Copan apartments for 60 hours and spent two and a half days closely documenting the daily life of its residents.
COPAN 60 Hours (2017, 54′) “Copan” is an iconic apartment building in the center of Brazil's largest city, São Paulo. Designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, the building has more than five thousand residents of all social classes. The building is a projection of a social utopia: at “Copan”, there are citizens living in residences ranging from 400 square meters to 20 square meters. To capture this diversity, which is a portrait of Brazil, our crew rented a small apartment for two and a half days to be able to observe and register the daily life of “Copan” up close. The name “Copan, 60 hours” came from this decision to immerse in the building for two and a half days: 60 hours of occupation.
