Česká Lípa - Česká Lípa is preparing a detailed project for the reconstruction of Jirásek Theatre and the design of its interiors. The execution documentation will be prepared by the studio of Adam Rujbr, who already prepared the documentation for the building permit. The city will pay an additional 4.7 million crowns for the detailed project, but the city council will have a clear idea of the scope of work and costs. Kristýna Kňákal Brožová, the spokesperson for the city hall, said this today to ČTK. If everything goes well, the reconstruction could begin as early as next year.

"The reconstruction of Jirásek Theatre is a very complex construction, and therefore it is not sufficient to have just a completed project for the building permit for selecting the contractor. A more detailed project needs to be developed, including a precise specification of the materials used on the floors, walls, and other structures inside the theatre. Therefore, the project will also include an interior design, along with a detailed proposal for the orientation system,” added Deputy Mayor Martin Brož (ANO).

The contract should be completed in the spring of next year. "In addition to the precise appearance of the future Jirásek Theatre, we will find out how much the reconstruction will cost, even though we already have a financial estimate. As soon as we have the project, we will strive to announce the tender for the construction contractor as soon as possible," Brož added. The costs are preliminarily estimated at 180 million crowns.

Jirásek Theatre was established in the 1930s by converting a municipal gymnasium built in 1907. The building has poor air conditioning and structural issues, which do not meet the requirements of a modern theatre. The restoration of the theatre has been discussed in the city for 20 years. The city originally wanted to build a new theatre, but it was not possible to obtain grants for the project costing 300 to 400 million crowns. There was also consideration of relocating the theatre to the Crystal Cultural House. Ultimately, however, the city returned to the idea of reconstructing the Jirásek Theatre building.

Architect Rujbr is considering relocating the main entrance of Jirásek Theatre closer to the town hall on Panská Street. He wants to maintain the current dimensions of the stage and the capacity of the auditorium. In addition to the main theatre hall, several other spaces for hosting smaller or alternative events will be created in the building. Visitors will have access to a theatre café with a separate operation and several bars. The facility will be barrier-free. "We want to build a modern cultural facility that will meet current demands," added Mayor Jitka Volfová (ANO).
