Ostrava

Ostrava - The Neo-Baroque building from 1915 on Ostrožná Street in Opava, where a bank operated just a few years ago, is being prepared by the city to be converted into a cultural and social center for Opava. In addition to multipurpose halls for hosting social and cultural events, visitors to this Town Hall could also learn about the history of Opava. Today's regional supplement reports on this in Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD).

According to Irena Šindlerová from the office of the mayor of Opava, the city has developed an architectural study. According to it, a multipurpose social hall with a small stage should be established on the ground floor of the building. It will serve as a meeting place for city associations, for handing out certificates, or for organizing balls and concerts, stated Šindlerová.
From the foyer, a representative lounge designated for the city's working meetings will be accessible. On the same floor, there will also be a municipal café with a summer terrace. In the basement of the Town Hall, spaces for club music and theater performances will be created. A permanent museum exhibition on the history of Opava will be located on the first floor.
The gallery spaces on the second floor will allow for exhibitions, and a lecture hall for 50 people will be equipped to screen films and hold lecture events. A literary tea room with a small library will be available. The third floor will serve as a facility for staff.
The total reconstruction will cost more than 59 million crowns, and the city aims to obtain funding from EU structural funds, with the city contributing 15 percent. At the end of June, the Opava city council established a working group responsible for creating a contributory organization for the field of culture.
