Bruntál - The town of Bruntál has completed the construction of a modern terminal that will connect train and bus transport. It will open to passengers next week, with bus operations starting on August 10th. The construction of the terminal cost 56 million crowns excluding VAT, with 85% covered by European grants. Jiří Ondrášek, spokesperson for the town hall, informed ČTK of this. Mayor Petr Rys (STAN) stated that the new passage between the bus and train sections has significantly increased passenger safety. "We can already see how functional the new space is, how it is being used by travelers, and how the parking spaces are being utilized. This qualitative difference will be even more apparent once the bus section is operational and the bus platforms move here again," said the mayor. The entire area underwent a complete transformation from road I/11 to the back of the train station, including part of the original freight yard. The terminal is dominated by a new dispatch building shaped like a curved wing with a waiting room and a roof over the bus platforms. Passengers have access to an information kiosk, a wireless wi-fi network, new public restrooms, and a bicycle storage facility. Thanks to the expansion of the area, dozens of new parking spaces and resting areas for travelers have been created right next to the train station building. The terminal is enhanced by greenery that has been planted. "A thorough reconstruction was also carried out on what is not visible at first glance - the aging engineering networks underground," Ondrášek noted. The mayor mentioned that over a thousand people transfer or pass through the area daily. The new terminal should also serve as a representative entry point into the 17,000-strong town.
