Brno - Preparatory work on the reconstruction of Dominikánské náměstí starts today in Brno. This was stated by Zuzana Šrámková from the press center of the Brno city hall. Almost 60 million CZK excluding VAT will see a parking lot for dozens of cars disappear from the square, which will become a public space. According to Šrámková, the current work will only affect the ramp at St. Michael's Church, and not the traffic or parking spaces on the square itself.
The next phase of work will depend on the weather, and the city will provide information about the schedules. The work is expected to last less than 300 days. Archaeologists will oversee the project. "If circumstances do not require archaeological research, the reconstruction of the square could be completed later this year," said Šrámková.
The parking lot will disappear from the square and be transformed into a social space. "I am very glad that the last of the main squares in the historic center of Brno will be reconstructed and will take the form of a dignified public space," said Martin Landa, the mayor of the Brno-Center district (for Live Brno).
According to Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO), the reconstruction plan also takes into account the renovation of the Jalta Palace, which was purchased by a private investor for over 100 million CZK. The dilapidated building is intended to be converted into a space for a shopping arcade, offices, or apartments.
