BRNO - The Brno-Centre City Hall continues the regeneration of the problematic neighborhood between Milady Horákové and Bratislavská streets, commonly referred to as the "Bronx." Some time ago, they had three dilapidated houses at Bratislavská street numbers 56, 58, and 60 demolished. A new building has already been constructed on the sites of the first two, and today the city council opened the new construction at number 60. "The building is intended for people with disabilities and so-called income-restricted individuals," said the spokesperson for the city district, Roman Burián.
The apartments for the disabled will be allocated by the city hall. Each of the four modified apartments has barrier-free kitchen units, social facilities, and window openings; the floors have been adjusted to be slip-resistant. Even the drying room has been adapted for hanging clothes at a maximum height of 1.2 meters from the floor. A lift platform connects the street to the first above-ground floor.
The apartments for low-income individuals range from 43 to 68 square meters. People whose income over the last year did not exceed an average of 14,000 crowns per month for individuals or 27,000 crowns for couples are entitled to them, said the head of the housing department, Robert Bátrla. The rent will be 2.5 times the regulated rent.
The construction cost 32 million crowns, which included a subsidy of 8.2 million crowns from the State Fund for Housing Development and 3.5 million from the city of Brno. The rest was covered by the city district itself.
According to Burián, the Brno-Centre City Hall has invested 596 million crowns in construction over the last five years. For example, the adjacent building to the one that was opened today cost 41 million crowns, and another building in the "Bronx," located at Cejl 49, cost 68 million. The largest investment in recent years has been the regeneration of the swimming pool at Kraví hora, with the construction of a new indoor pool costing 215 million. In December, the construction of a residential building with caretaker services costing 123 million in Hybešová street will be completed.
