Brno may soon receive a memorial to Saints Cyril and Methodius

Brno - Brno may soon have a memorial for Saints Cyril and Methodius. The Brno bishopric is in discussions with the city council about it. They are also looking for a location where the memorial could be placed. This was stated today by Martina Jandlová, the spokesperson for the Brno bishopric, in a press release.
According to her, one of the options for the placement of the memorial is an unspecified location near one of the city's main landmarks, the cathedral on Petrov Hill. "For many years, it has been the wish of Brno Bishop Vojtěch Cikrle that the brothers from Solun could also be remembered with dignity in Brno,” Jandlová stated.
Cyril and Methodius are, according to her, co-patrons of the Brno diocese, and their reliefs adorn the facade of the cathedral on Petrov Hill. The cathedral also houses Cyril's remains. She did not specify when the new memorial would be erected in Brno. She only reminded that in 2013, it will be the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of both Slavic missionaries in Moravia.
Today, the Czech Republic commemorates the legacy of Saint Cyril and Methodius. Their Christian mission laid the foundations for the emergence of the Czech state in the second half of the 9th century in Moravia. Today is a national holiday in the civil calendar. For thousands of Catholic believers at the Moravian Velehrad, the celebration of the two saints will culminate in a liturgy today during the national pilgrimage.
