Brno - Brno is preparing a reconstruction of the building that houses the Scala cinema and, on the other side, the Bolka Polívka Theatre. The mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS), informed journalists today. The estimated costs are 65 million crowns.
The council approved the contract for project documentation today. "Project documentation for the construction modifications of the Scala cinema and Bolka Polívka Theatre will be developed. The purpose of the reconstruction is to ensure that the modified spaces comply with current fire safety regulations, structural norms, as well as acoustic and technical standards for the operation of the theatre and cinema," Vaňková stated.
She reminded that both organizations are in the same building, although each is accessed through a different entrance from a different street. The entrance to Scala is from Moravské náměstí, while the theatre is accessed from Jakubské náměstí. The building is co-owned by the city and the joint-stock company Dům Scala. The cinema and theatre spaces belong to the city and are interconnected by utilities and load-bearing structures. The auditorium and stage of the theatre are directly above the auditorium of the cinema. The goal of the investment is also to ensure the structural integrity of the theatre floor, which is the ceiling of the cinema, and to carry out sound insulation so that theatre and film productions do not disturb each other. Furthermore, the reconstruction includes new technologies, facilities, and similar improvements.
