Brno - Brno will repair two buildings at the entrance to the central cemetery for 13.5 million. The buildings housed the gatehouse and gardening center, but are now in poor condition. This was stated in a press release by Zuzana Gregorová from the press department of the Brno municipality. According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), the work will begin around April or May and will be completed next year. The gatehouse and offices will remain in the buildings.

The buildings are located at the entrance from Jihlavská Street. "They are currently in a significantly unsatisfactory condition. A complete reconstruction is planned in cooperation with heritage conservators. Protected elements will remain preserved,” said Gregorová.

The city already has funds set aside in this year's budget for the repairs. "Repairs will commence immediately after the contractor is selected in April or May. We can only estimate the completion date. If there are no complications, I believe that we will be able to restore the valuable buildings to their beauty by next spring,” said Hladík.

The investment will be managed by the city's contributory organization, the Cemetery Administration of the City of Brno. It is responsible for all 11 cemeteries in Brno, which have around 100,000 plots. The central cemetery is the largest of them.

The cemetery underwent significant investments five years ago, when the crematorium was renovated for almost 40 million. The parking lot was also renovated, and an entrance was created on Jihlavská Street, which houses a flower shop connected with refreshments and a stone shop. At that time, a building was also constructed at the entrance to the crematorium's service yard. A contact point for the bereaved was established there.
