Brno – Brno will allocate 12.4 million Czech crowns for the construction of a sports hall in Lesná, which will be built by the Aréna Lesná association for 60 million crowns. The provision of the subsidy was approved today by the city councilors. A condition is that the association must also obtain a grant from the National Sports Agency. The hall, with 300 seats, is expected to serve sports such as floorball and handball.

The provision of the subsidy was part of a package of several points, for which all 42 present councilors raised their hands; no one was against, and no one abstained. The hall is planned for the southern part of the Lesná housing estate, below the roundabout at the intersection of Okružní and Seifertova streets.

Brno stipulates as a condition for providing more than 12 million that the association must provide proof of the decision regarding the allocation of the grant from the National Sports Agency before receiving the funds. The agency is expected to contribute 42 million crowns to the hall. The remaining six million will be covered by the association itself.

Currently, there are technical buildings on the site, which will be removed for the new construction. "The Lesná district has not yet had an adequate sports facility that meets both capacity and safety standards, serving children and adults," stated Brno's councilor for sports, Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL) earlier.

According to him, the facility will serve sports such as floorball, handball, futsal, volleyball, korfball, badminton, and others. The project also includes barrier-free access to both the hall's facilities and to the terrace with a capacity of 300 people.
