Brno - The Brno city councilors want to build new shelters at selected public transport stops in Brno and improve the comfort of passengers. Therefore, they commissioned the Brno Public Transport Company to prepare a study mapping the equipment of individual stops, said councilor for transport Petr Kratochvíl (ODS) to reporters.

Passengers can use approximately 1400 stops. The new project should focus on reviewing existing shelters and building new ones where they are missing. One such location is the hub at the Central Cemetery.

"The stops should be equipped similarly to the one at Moravské náměstí. There, people can read timetables and charge their phones. First, we want to find out which places are the most frequented and gradually equip them with new shelters," said Kratochvíl. The public transport company is working on the study and looking for funding options to help co-finance the project.

"So far, we have identified ten stops that the project would affect. Our goal is to build stops that will be smart, ecological, and fit into the urban environment," said transport company spokeswoman Hana Tomaštíková. Trams, trolleybuses, and buses in Brno transport a million people daily. In 2017, there were the highest number in the last seven years, 356.6 million.
