Brno - The city districts of Brno lack funds for the renovation of housing estates. So far, around 30 million crowns have been allocated for the renewal of parking lots, playgrounds, and parks in Brno, but hundreds of millions would be necessary, said deputy mayor Oliver Pospíšil to reporters today. About a third of the city districts have so far initiated more extensive regeneration, and three others are now planning to start renovations.

Kohoutovice, Komín, and Kamenný vrch are counting on total investments of around 18 million crowns. Up to 70 percent could come from the Ministry for Regional Development. The request for a grant has already been approved by the councilors, but according to Pospíšil, it has a low chance of success. "If state funds arrived, more could be repaired and faster," said the deputy.
In the Kamenný vrch housing estate, they want to use the grant money to complete a large sports field and renovate playgrounds and sports facilities at the Kamínky elementary school, said Jan Privarčák, the deputy mayor of the Nový Lískovec district. The town hall has already invested over 16 million in the renovation of vacant lots and sports facilities.
Kohoutovice, on the other hand, has repaired a larger portion of apartment buildings in recent years. Insulation, new windows, and extensions cost about 130 million crowns. There are still streets to be renovated. This will require another 60 million, estimated Mayor Jiří Zorník.
For example, in Vinohradech, repairs are being carried out gradually. The current budget has allocated over two million crowns for this purpose. However, much more would be needed, stated Mayor Jiří Čejka, noting that next year the town hall plans to launch a larger project and request financial assistance from the city as well.
