Brno - The Brno city hall has prepared an exhibition about archaeological finds discovered by scientists in the underground of the historical core of Brno. Starting today, people can see it at the Urban Center at the Old Town Hall. The exhibition presents the results of archaeological surveys in Freedom Square, around St. James Church, and on Starobrněnská, Mečová, and Dominikánská streets, said Pavel Žára, a spokesperson for the city council, to ČTK. According to Žára, the exhibition also features several items found during the research, such as a Spanish sword from the 17th century from the cemetery near St. James. Starting next week, a model of the historical center of Brno measuring two by 1.5 meters will also be part of the exhibition. According to archaeologists, the remains of medieval buildings can be found throughout the entire historical core of Brno. Experts are gradually mapping them during rescue surveys. "This way, we are gradually managing to piece together a mosaic of the appearance and life of the city in the medieval period," said David Merta, director of the Archaia company, which conducts a part of the archaeological work in Brno, to ČTK earlier. At the exhibition, visitors will also see what scientists found in the underground of the recently reconstructed Freedom Square. During construction work in previous years, archaeologists uncovered, for example, a well, a sump, and parts of sewer pipes from the 13th to 16th centuries. The exhibition will also include two lectures by archaeologists from the Archaia company. At the seminars, which the Urban Center plans for June 7 and 14, people will be able to learn about the life of Brno's inhabitants in past centuries and also about the ongoing archaeological research in the center of Brno. The lectures will take place at 5:00 PM.
