Břeclav wants to renovate the castle for more than 200 million

Břeclav - The town hall in Břeclav plans a complete reconstruction of the castle, which is deteriorating. It is expected to cost over 200 million Czech crowns. The city will try to obtain a grant from the state and the European Union, said Deputy Mayor Milan Vojta (ANO) today to ČTK. If this fails, Břeclav has a backup plan to repair the castle in stages. The coalition consisting of the Pro Region movement, ČSSD, and ANO agreed that it wants to make progress on the castle's repair during this electoral term.
    "Our main goal is to secure funding from grants that are currently well available. We also have the advantage that our coalition is largely the same as the one in government. This is not insignificant," Vojta stated. In the government, representatives from ČSSD and ANO are supplemented by the Christian Democrats.
    According to Vojta, Břeclav can obtain a grant of 85 percent. "We also anticipate that the estimated costs of 200 million crowns could be reduced by one fifth to one third through the tender process," Vojta added.
    However, the town hall also has a backup option. "The designer is working on the reconstruction in specific phases. If we do not have a promise of funding for the complete reconstruction next year, or do not know that it is on the right track, we will try to repair parts of the castle step by step from our own and probably also credit sources," said the deputy mayor.
    The goal of the reconstruction is to revive the castle. It is currently in a dilapidated state and only the tower is accessible, which the town hall repaired for two million and opened to the public last year. "We want to make the castle more attractive and draw visitors to it," said the deputy mayor. According to Mayor Pavla Dominika (Pro Region), it would be good to add railing to the repaired tower. "Currently, it is only possible to look out in two directions, which could change with the railing," Dominik added.
    The Břeclav castle is originally a Renaissance castle structure that was remodeled in a romanticizing style into an artificial ruin. The castle has deteriorated to such an extent that the town hall has had to spend tens of millions of crowns in recent years for its structural stabilization. In addition, a large part also has a new roof.
