Bohumín - The modernization of the mourning hall from the 1980s in Bohumín, in the Karviná region, will cost 8.5 million crowns. Craftsmen are repairing and insulating the roof, and the facade will be modified. There are also plans for the transformation of the public space in front of the building. The operation of the mourning hall is limited due to the repairs, said the city hall spokesperson Lucie Balcarová to ČTK.
"The mourning hall has already seen its best years. This year, we have therefore embarked on external modifications. We are trying to minimize disruptions to the mourning ceremonies. In the next few years, the modernization of the interior will also take place," stated mayor Petr Vícha (ČSSD).
The original roof structure has been removed from the building, and a new steel one is being installed in its place. However, during heavy rains, water leaked into the building, complicating the operation of the mourning hall. "We were hit by two heavy downpours and despite the measures taken, water leaked into the building. Unfortunately, water got into the facilities of the mourning hall, which complicated the holding of mourning ceremonies," said Jan Hock from the development and investment department. To expedite construction, mourning ceremonies are therefore limited to one each day until further notice, always at 10:00 AM.
"The company has managed to speed up the delivery of materials, and next week they will begin covering the flat part of the roof with the final layer," Hock added. The roof repair should be completed by the end of June, followed by the facade repair.
The area in front of the ceremony hall will have a new surface, benches will be added, and new greenery will be planted. The entire reconstruction will last until the end of the summer holidays.
