Auction brought more money for the restoration of the church according to Pleskot

České Budějovice - The proceeds of 264,000 crowns for the restoration of the Church of the Holy Family in Senovážné Square came from today’s charity auction of artworks. The building belongs to the Bishop's Gymnasium, and the students decided to restore it according to the design of the famous architect Josef Pleskot. For this purpose, along with the amount raised from today's auction, they have already obtained a total of 1.37 million crowns, said priest and spiritual leader of the Bishop's Gymnasium, Josef Prokeš, to ČTK.
The church's appearance was affected in the past by the communist regime. The damaged building is now gradually being renovated by the Bishop's Gymnasium. "The amount we currently have is enough to start work on lighting the church, installing electricity and heating," said Prokeš.
Today’s auction offered bidders over 40 works from 34 authors. Interested parties auctioned almost all of the exhibits. "I wanted to support the repair of the church and at the same time I was looking for a piece that I could afford with my girlfriend," said one of the successful bidders, Pavel Pelikán, a sixth-year student at the Bishop's Gymnasium.
The Church of the Holy Family, located in close proximity to the historic center of České Budějovice, was built in the 1880s. At that time, it belonged to the monastery and orphanage run by the Sisters of Charity. During the communist regime, the church was deconsecrated and stopped being used for church ceremonies.
One of the most famous and respected Czech architects of today, Josef Pleskot, designed a project two years ago that should aid in the restoration of the building. The Bishop's Gymnasium intends to hold masses and other school events there in the future.
