Aš - Aš in the Cheb region will start to renovate the so-called Park of History in the historical part of the city this year. The significant investment by the city was supposed to begin last year, but the winning construction company exceeded the budget limit of 44 million crowns set for 2019 by double. Therefore, the city commissioned a revision of the project documentation. This resulted in a technologically cheaper option, which still preserved most of the planned buildings, said Aš City Hall spokesperson Milan Vrbata.

The first part of the park's revitalization will therefore cost 53.5 million crowns. "That price is still higher than it was in the project, however, it is no longer as dramatically high as it was in the first competition. So we would like to start implementing the project," said the mayor of Aš, Dalibor Blažek (HNHRM).

The work on the park's improvements is divided into three parts and will last for two years. The first part, for which a tender was held, will involve construction work, the second part is a virtual educational trail, and the third is the construction of a playground. The first part will include the construction of sidewalks, a pedestrian suspension bridge, paved paths, and landscaping.

In the first stage, the city also wants to repair the historic stone bridge from 1724. "This is the oldest structure in the city, so the restoration of this state-protected monument will be carried out according to the restoration plan and under the supervision of heritage conservators," stated Vrbata.

The Park of History project emerged thanks to the long-term cooperation between Aš and neighboring Bavaria, particularly the nearby town of Selb. Aš, with approximately 13,000 inhabitants, received a grant of 1.5 million euros (approximately 38 million crowns) from a cross-border program for the park's improvements.
