awarded design on the theme Klatovy - Regeneration of the square of náměstí Míru by the architectural office chmelík & partners, s.r.o.
Prague - The Peter Parler Award is this year going to Hradec Králové. The authors from the local architectural office chmelík&partners stood out in the ninth year of the public urban and architectural competition with their proposal for the regeneration of the square in the West Bohemian town of Klatovy. For their project, they also received the Minister of Regional Development's Award. Jitka Kynzlová informed ČTK on behalf of the competition organizers. This year, nearly 70 architects competed for the Peter Parler Award 2011 - for the benefit of municipalities and homeland, submitting 24 competition designs on how to architecturally and urbanistically improve nine specific locations in nine Czech cities - České Budějovice, Jičín, Klatovy, Most, Rousínov, Šumperk, Třeboň, Vodňany, and Zábřeh in the Olomouc region. Two teams chose to address the reconstruction of a historical building on Jirsík Street in České Budějovice and the revitalization of the municipal courtyard "Na hrádku" in Jičín, while another four focused on the transformation of Sušilovo Square in Rousínov. "The greatest interest among architects was in the regeneration of the square of náměstí Míru in Klatovy - this theme was chosen by nine teams. Seven teams focused on the restoration of the area around the Škorna pond in Vodňany," Kynzlová stated. The highest award, named after the famous Gothic builder Peter Parler, was won by architects from the architectural office chmelík&partners. The jury particularly appreciated that the design by Jaromír Chmelík, Hana Kasalová, and Kryštof Kreisinger "significantly cultivates the addressed space using appropriate contemporary means with respect to the history and current needs of the site." The Ministry of the Environment Award was then received by architects from the studio BRAK architects. "In addressing public spaces today, it is not about marketing strategies to explain the municipal plans to poorly informed citizens and to "sell" them better, but rather about an equal dialogue, respecting the opinions of those to whom the matter pertains," stated the chairman of the jury Osamu Okamura, adding that "one of the extremely important tasks of good architecture is to set an example, encourage local residents to positive activity, and the awarded projects could succeed in that." The ceremonial award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, September 21, at 3:00 PM in the representative spaces of the Prague City Hall at Mariánské náměstí in Prague.
