Cheb - Architects from the A69 studio, the authors of the design for the new pedestrian zone in Cheb, want to enliven it with an unconventional street party that they are organizing on Friday evening. Its goal is to show people the possibilities that the new boulevard offers and encourage them to use it more in the evening, said Matěj Šišolák from the A69 studio to ČTK today.
"We want to provide some kind of guide so that people are not afraid to just go to the pedestrian zone, not only when they are passing by from work or going shopping. We have also agreed with the restaurants in the pedestrian zone that they will stay open during the street party and, if possible, will operate their outdoor seating," described Šišolák. It should also be an opportunity for café and restaurant operators to offer people new possibilities that the pedestrian zone provides.
The new pedestrian zone, the main part of which was completed this summer, was conceived from the beginning as a modern urban boulevard that will become a natural meeting place and a place to spend time. "However, in the past and so far even now, the pedestrian zone is almost empty in the evening, which is a shame," thinks Šišolák.
The street party, to which the architects invited not only the public but also their colleagues, will be enlivened by music, and modern LED-lit light columns placed in the pedestrian zone will be used to enhance the atmosphere. A time-lapse documentary about the pedestrian zone will also be filmed at the party.
The modern, brightly paved boulevard, which runs almost from the train station to the historic town center, cost the city approximately 130 million crowns. A massive rotating metal monoblock symbolically separates it from the medieval square.
Work on the pedestrian zone has not yet been completely finished. Work continues on the adjacent streets, where construction activities should be definitively completed this fall.
