Hradec Králové - Architect Alexander Pur, who determined the appearance of several significant buildings in Hradec Králové over the past few decades, will have a life-sized statue in the historic center of the city. The metal statue by Tomáš Misík will depict Pur as a cyclist and will be placed in the middle of Malé náměstí within a few weeks. Pur suddenly passed away in 2011 and would have turned 70 in January 2017. This was announced today by the spokesperson of the city hall, Magdaléna Vlčková.
The statue will be symbolically located in areas that are very close to Pur. "He was involved in nearby projects, specifically in the renovation of Klicpera Theatre and the Beseda Studio. The central part of Malé náměstí is, in a sense, the intersection of these two places," the spokesperson stated.
Pur also contributed as a co-author to the creation of the Czech Insurance Company building on 28th October Square, residential buildings on Na Střezině Street, and the reconstruction and extensions of panel houses on Jungmannova Street. He was a member of the team that won the competition for the reconstruction of Benešova třída. He was also the author of the building of the Ministry of the Interior's Health Insurance Company on Wonková Street.
According to Mayor Zdeněk Fink, Pur's statue might not have to remain solely on Malé náměstí. "He is, after all, a typical cyclist from Hradec," the mayor noted. Pur was posthumously awarded the Primus Inter Pares award by the Hradec Králové city hall in 2012. He received it for his significant and noticeable contribution to the architecture and construction of the city of Hradec Králové.
