Olomouc - The recently opened aquapark in Prostějov will be costly for the local council. The city will have to pay an additional more than 21 million crowns for extra work. Some council members consider the construction to be hasty. The original total costs amounted to 153.5 million crowns, writes today's Prostějovský deník.

"The fundamental problem of the current state was the inadequate project preparation at the time when the contract was concluded," stated the director of the Public Procurement division of RTS, Petr Vrbka, in a cost assessment. According to him, it was necessary to carry out quite extensive additional work during further processing of the project documentation and while building the investment.
"The scope of work and their increase were caused, among other things, by changes in the technical solution and then by supplementing the construction with items that typically do not belong to investments," stated Pavel Drmola, councilor and managing director of Mi Pro Stav. This included interior fittings - lockers, boxes, coin locks, and a camera system. The costs of construction work unexpectedly increased primarily due to problems with excavated soil, which could not be used according to the original plans as a base for paved surfaces. Therefore, different sub-bases had to be brought in for the multipurpose pool, retaining walls, and staircases. "This single problem cost about seven and three-quarters million crowns extra," added Drmola.
Councilor Václav Šmíd considers the construction of the aquapark to be hasty. "The aquapark should have started construction only this September. I said this a year ago when I heard promises that the facility would operate from the beginning of this season. It did not function. Otherwise, all those unfortunate projects could have been resolved, and probes could have been conducted based on whose results different foundation methods should have been chosen," Šmíd told the newspaper.
Due to the aquapark, the city also faces a half-million fine from the antimonopoly office, and the council has filed a complaint against the decision. The office imposed a fine on Prostějov for not announcing a public tender and awarding contracts to Micos and Mi Pro Stav based on a public-private partnership agreement.
