Vila Mecklin in Finnish Naantali by Huttunen–Lipasti–Pakkanen

The trio of Finnish architects designed a house for their friends on the rocky island of Naantali. The simple shape of the house gradually took form as the architects carefully selected suitable materials and details directly on-site. The villa was primarily built through self-help. No detailed plans were needed, as all problems were resolved with the architects right there on location. The house is nestled in a narrow band of mature trees on a rocky ledge in the midst of a landscape formed by large boulders and low vegetation. The house, with a façade made of untreated wood that will gray over time, lightly touches the wild nature with its foundations. Inside, the living room features bright wood and white surfaces, but the main living area of the house is the outdoor terrace with a panoramic view of the vast water surface. In the middle of the terrace, a fire pit is hidden beneath a wooden hatch.
