Rome - Scientists claim to have definitively identified the residences that the Italian Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci occupied with his family in Florence. They are located in the current historical center of the famous Tuscan city. This was reported by the ANSA agency.

The director of the museum in the town of Vinci near Florence, Alessandro Vezzosi, and expert on the history of Renaissance mathematics, Elisabetta Ulivi, stated that they managed to identify five residences of the da Vinci family based on documents from Piero da Vinci, the painter's father. The apartments are situated between the neighborhoods of Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce, and Piazza della Signoria. They mainly served as offices for Leonardo's father.
Until now, nothing was known about three of these apartments that the da Vinci family occupied. The remaining two confirmed earlier hypotheses.
The new findings may contribute to a better understanding of Leonardo da Vinci's early period in Florence and the genesis of works from this time, the scientists stated.
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), the author of the famous Mona Lisa, painter, sculptor, architect, and inventor, is one of the greatest figures of the Italian Renaissance.
