Los Angeles - The Rockwell and Marny Schnabel Residence located in Brentwood, California is for sale. Designed by Frank Gehry at the end of the 1980s for the family of an influential figure in American international politics (including ambassador to Finland and the EU), the house is now being sold by its current owner, film producer Michael LaFetra, for 12 million USD (approximately 275 million CZK).

The Schnabel residence is one of 28 single-family homes designed by Frank Gehry (winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1989). It sits on a plot of land with an area of 2300 m² and offers 530 m² of usable space. Gehry himself stated that "this design I envisioned for my own house". The house was completed in 1989. It includes five bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a separate library, an audiovisual room, a fitness area, a sauna, garages, and an office located in a domed structure. Surrounding the house are several pools and an olive grove. Stylistically, the Schnabel Residence straddles the cusp of peak postmodernism and emerging deconstructivism. It is often regarded as one of the icons of California architecture.

In 2006, the producer Jon Platt purchased it and decided to modify it to better suit his needs. He called upon Gehry for collaboration, and after four years, the work was completed. Among other things, Platt was troubled by the numerous windows that caused the interior to overheat. He covered the glass areas with a protective reflective film, the effectiveness of which can be adjusted as desired.

Platt sold the house in January 2013 to producer Michael LaFetra for 9.5 million dollars. LaFetra attempted to sell it speculatively at the beginning of last year for 15 million. The current price is 11,995,000 USD.
