London - On the last day of the year 1999, the tallest "Ferris wheel" in Europe was ceremoniously inaugurated in London, which, despite criticism from local residents, quickly became the most sought-after paid attraction in Great Britain. The so-called London Eye provides incredible views, allowing observers to see the entire British metropolis almost at a glance. The giant observation wheel, located in close proximity to the most famous London landmarks, has 32 air-conditioned capsules, each capable of holding up to 25 people. Up to 15,000 visitors can ride it in a single day. The machine is constantly moving, but it rotates very slowly, so tourists can board while it is in motion. A single ride lasts half an hour. The construction of the 135-meter-high and 1,500-ton colossus was also contributed to by the Plzeň-based Škoda company, which manufactured the heart of the entire wheel - the central axis for securing the cables and the anchoring bases. The realization of the London Eye was made possible by British Airways and the Marks Barfield Architects office.
