OMA's Porsche will build two skyscrapers in Dubai

On October 23, 2006, the Rotterdam office of Rem Koolhaas announced that it would be constructing two skyscrapers in Dubai in collaboration with Porsche Design. An office building with an area of 85,000 m² and a tower with luxury apartments will be situated next to each other on the shore of Business Bay. The expected completion date is 2009. The office building and residential tower will feature squares with cafes and shops. The buildings have been designed to absorb as little solar heat as possible: the office tower is framed by two wings that reflect in the facade and provide shade at the same time. The residential tower takes the form of a cylinder with an internal atrium that extends the full height of the structure. Porsche Design will handle the "cladding" of the buildings and will also design public spaces such as foyers, restaurants, and elevators. At the customer's request, the company can also furnish apartments in the Porsche Design style.
